2026 Brisbane Portrait Prize Finalist – “I Am Ugarapul”

For the 2nd year in a row, one of my portraits of local Indigenous Elders has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Brisbane Portrait Prize.

Hanging in the State Library of Queensland’s 2026 Brisbane Portrait Prize Finalists’ Exhibition, is the insightful portrait of proud Ugarapul Elder and Traditional Owner, Uncle Rossi Anderson, titled “I Am Ugarapul”.

This stunning portrait is a part of the project, Shared Words – Lives Lived, which captures the stories of eight local Elders and complemented by the striking and thoughtful portraits of each participant. This project has now been the seed to a number of other similar projects where communities have identified the need to capture the lives, experiences and truths of local Elders before the details are lost to time.
